Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.


Roles overview:


  • Lead and execute component/ system design projects for advancements in aerospace gas turbine engines
  • Work collaboratively in the design, analysis, and testing of components and systems including conceptual design, detailed design, testing, validation, and product implementation.
  • Work with other support functions and/or external suppliers to meet project deliverables.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Stay updated on advancements in mechanical technologies in the areas of tribology and fretting or structural mechanics or engine dynamics research, and apply innovative approaches to solve engineering challenges.
  • Work collaboratively in the design, analysis, and optimization of machinery components and systems under complex thermal, mechanical, and/or aero loads
  • Provide leadership while working with technical team, support functions and/or external suppliers to meet project deliverables.
  • Proactively identify technical challenges and help mitigate same through technical expertise to help meet project timelines and objectives.
  • Collaborate and develop internal and external project proposals and initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and significantly contribute to grow overall technical capability and product knowledge in technical focus areas.
  • Foster a multidisciplinary and inclusive team environment.

Ideal Candidate:


Should have experience in component/ system design and/or analysis using Structural Mechanics or Tribology & Fretting or Dynamics & Vibrations expertise


Required Qualifications:


  • PhD (or Master’s with at least 5 years of industrial experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics specializations
  • At least 5 years of experience in component/ system design and/or analysis projects using Tribology & fretting or Structural mechanics or Engine Dynamics expertise in the power generation, propulsion, automotive or oil and gas sectors.
  • Experience with experimental setups and analytical tools in developing mechanical technologies
  • Proficiency in computational modeling tools (e.g., FEA)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Execution mindset and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a global team environment.

Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience with the design, analysis, and optimization of machinery components (e.g., shafts, bearings, dampers, couplings, seals, gears, etc.) including conceptual design, detailed design, testing, validation, and product implementation.
  • Proficiency in simulation software (e.g ANSYS) & 3D modelling packages (e.g NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo)
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and expand the state of art in areas of tribology & fretting area
