Job description

Our Purpose

Mastercard powers economies and empowers people in 200+ countries and territories worldwide. Together with our customers, we’re helping build a sustainable economy where everyone can prosper. We support a wide range of digital payments choices, making transactions secure, simple, smart and accessible. Our technology and innovation, partnerships and networks combine to deliver a unique set of products and services that help people, businesses and governments realize their greatest potential.

Title and Summary

Lead Platform Engineer1) Overview
Network as a Service (NaaS) is an internally developed system designed to modernize Mastercard's network configuration and security policy management through automation. It plays a crucial role in our zero trust strategy and facilitates network micro-segmentation across our global data centers.
As a member of the Software Defined Networking Operations team, you will be responsible for supporting the NaaS ecosystem and the NaaS customer base. As a "militantly automated" team, we work in Source Control and let pipelines drive our work. We believe in configuration modeling and defining standards via automation so the tooling can do the heavy lifting for us. You will also be asked to deliver improvements to our tooling that will reduce the need for manual intervention in a PR or request.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Support: Monitor customer requests, answer customer questions related to their PR or system capabilities, assist in customer troubleshooting requests, and implement customer requests
System stability: Ensure a healthy system by monitoring services, pre-emptively resolve issues to keep the queue clean, and performing BAU activities
Tool Development: Build and maintain internal tools that automate network operations, improve observability, and streamline workflows.
Infrastructure as Code: Model configurations and enforce standards through code, enabling consistent and repeatable deployments.
Pipeline-Driven Engineering: Leverage CI/CD pipelines to manage code delivery, testing, and deployment.
Collaboration: Partner with network engineers, architects, and other Mastercard teams to enable their program goals and deadlines by providing a high level of support and communication across groups within Mastercard
2) Role
You will be the customer-facing representative of the Network as a Service tool and your main focus will be ensuring system stability/health while helping facilitate customer requests through the self-service system. The team operates with a “militantly automated” philosophy—favoring pipelines, source control, and configuration modeling over manual processes. Your work will directly impact how networking infrastructure is provisioned, monitored, and managed across platforms. You will also help customers resolve their network connectivity issues by troubleshooting their connection, syncing their policy, or helping to point them to the right team to solve their issue.
3) All about You/Experience
The ideal candidate for this role is a platform engineer with a strong foundation in customer support, technical communication, backend development, infrastructure automation, and a passion for building tools that simplify complex operations. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly automated environment and possess the following qualifications:
Technical Skills
Experience in Go: Strong knowledge with the ability to build tooling using Go, which is a core language for infrastructure and networking applications.
Experience with React (preferred): Familiarity with building intuitive and responsive user interfaces using React to support internal tooling and dashboards.
Infrastructure as Code: Advanced experience with tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar for modeling and managing network configurations.
CI/CD & DevOps: Deep understanding of pipeline-driven development using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
Networking Concepts: Solid grasp of networking fundamentals
Version Control: Strong Git skills and experience working in collaborative, source-controlled environments.
Soft Skills & Mindset
Customer-Focused: Understands the internal customer’s needs and works to support the customer and their program deliverables
Automation-First Mentality: Committed to reducing manual effort through automation and scripting.
Collaborative: Works well in cross-functional teams, especially with network/software engineers and operations staff.
Problem Solver: Able to break down complex operational challenges and deliver elegant, maintainable software solutions.
Continuous Learner: Stays current with emerging technologies in networking, automation, and software development.
