Job description

Careem is building the Everything App for the greater Middle East — making it easy to move around, order food and groceries, manage payments, and more. Our purpose is simple: to simplify and improve people’s lives and build an awesome organisation that inspires.
Since 2012, Careem has enabled earnings for over 2.5 million Captains, simplified the lives of more than 70 million customers, and built a platform where the region’s best talent and entrepreneurs thrive. We operate in 70+ cities across 10 countries, from Morocco to Pakistan.

We’re now entering our next chapter — one powered by AI. We’re looking for AI talent: curious problem-solvers who know how to apply AI to build tools, automate workflows, and create real impact. Whether it’s streamlining operations, enhancing customer experience, or reimagining internal systems — we want people who can make Careem work smarter and move faster.

About the team

Careem Grocery is on a mission to reinvent the way people shop for grocery, pharmacy and retail products. As an exciting new vertical within Careem (a startup within a startup), we’re in the early stages of building our product and have plenty of interesting and fundamental challenges to solve in order to achieve our ambitious growth goals in this burgeoning space.

About the role

We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Merchandising & Product Operations Specialist to join our dynamic team at Careem Groceries. This role is pivotal in bringing our in-app experience to life — combining deep ownership of merchandising execution with operational excellence. You will take charge of configuring, managing, and optimizing the in-app storefront experience, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver a seamless, compelling, and conversion-driven user journey.

What you'll do

In-App Merchandising Operations

  • Manage the in-app storefront, including the homepage, category landing pages, carousels, and other critical real estate.
  • Take full ownership of content configuration and execution using merchandising tools — ensuring timely, accurate, and smooth deployment.
  • A basic understanding of coding is preferred to effectively configure and troubleshoot merchandising setups.
  • Curate, implement, and continuously improve merchandising strategies aligned with business goals and customer insights.
  • Ensure the seamless execution of promotional plans and the merchandising calendar.

Data-Driven Optimization

  • Analyze user behavior, product performance, and merchandising metrics to guide in-app improvements.
  • Use analytics to enhance product discovery, engagement, and conversion rates across surfaces.
  • Conduct post-launch performance tracking and iterate for scale based on insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Category Management, Marketing, Catalog, and Design teams to coordinate effective campaigns and launches.
  • Act as the key liaison across Growth, Category, and Product teams to ensure alignment on merchandising and product content updates.

Content & Product Operations

  • Lead the configuration and synchronization of in-app content for consistency across platforms.
  • Ensure timely and accurate setup of feature and product releases.
  • Monitor tool performance and flag inefficiencies to drive continuous process optimization.

Project & Program Management

  • Independently manage multiple initiatives — from campaign setup to product releases — while ensuring cross-functional coordination.
  • Develop documentation and SOPs for merchandising workflows and content governance.

Customer-Centric Innovation

  • Leverage feedback and market research to identify new merchandising opportunities.
  • Work with Growth, Category and other cross-functional teams to enhance app usability and discoverability from a merchandising perspective.

What you'll need

  • Background: E-commerce or retail experience.
  • Basic Coding Knowledge: Comfort with basic coding concepts to support content configuration and tool troubleshooting.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, effective communication for collaborating with cross-functional teams, sharing insights, and gathering feedback.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights for improvements.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Problem Solving: Proactive skills to identify issues and work collaboratively on solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulousness when monitoring performance, analyzing data, and executing processes.
  • Customer Focus: A customer-centric mindset in decision-making, shaping product features to enhance satisfaction.
  • Quality Assurance: Knowledge of QA processes to ensure the output meets standards and issues are promptly addressed.
  • Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in product management and operations.

What we’ll provide you

We offer colleagues the opportunity to drive impact in the region while they learn and grow. As a full time Careem colleague, you will be able to:

  • Work and learn from great minds by joining a community of inspiring colleagues.
  • Put your passion to work in a purposeful organisation dedicated to creating impact in a region with a lot of untapped potential.
  • Explore new opportunities to learn and grow every day.
  • Work 4 days a week in office & 1 day from home, and remotely from any country in the world for 30 days a year with unlimited vacation days per year. (If you are in an individual contributor role in tech, you will have 2 office days a week and 3 to work from home.)
  • Access to healthcare benefits and fitness reimbursements for health activities including gym, health club, and training classes.
