Job description

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE


The primary purpose of this role is to lead the planning, scheduling, and cost control activities within IMI shipyard organization for all new build projects. The role will involve developing project plans, monitoring progress, analyzing costs, and implementing strategies to ensure efficient project execution and financial accountability. Work closely with project teams, stakeholders, and management to optimize project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, contributing to the overall success of shipyard operations.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


Schedule Management


• Lead planning and scheduling for new-build commercial ships and OSVs.


• Develop and maintain integrated master schedules using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.


• Develop and maintain accurate project schedules with resource loading.


• Prepare planning deliverables in accordance with project timelines.


• Perform schedule updates, variance analysis, critical path analysis, and forecast to complete, variance identification and opportunities for improvement


• Support the project managers with progress reporting.


• Identify deviations in schedule and prepare recovery plans.


• Coordinate with bid planners to ensure timely and cohesive bid submissions.


• Develop resource loading and capacity leveling charts such as histograms.


• Support program integration, governance, and plan optimization. Cost Management


• Develop project budgets aligned with cost estimates and financial goals in coordination with the bidding team.


• Monitor project expenditures and analyze variances against budgets using Earned Value Management (EVM) method.


• Implement cost control strategies and identify cost-saving opportunities


• Establish and maintain cost control processes and procedures in line with the company standard procedures.


• Provide regular cost reports and updates to stakeholders utilizing the company’s ERP system.


• Analyze actual costs, commitments, and forecasts to identify trends and risks.


• Collaborate with estimating teams to ensure accurate cost projections.


• Support earned value management (EVM) and cash flow reporting.


• Produce annual and semi-annual accountability reports, initiatives, weekly/monthly highlights and presentations to higher management. 


Risk Management


• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.


• Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.


• Monitor risk factors and proactively address potential issues.


• Support and advise on risk management policies and tools (e.g., Primavera Risk Analysis). General Responsibilities


• Supervise the project control team (cost engineers, planners, risk specialists, document controllers).


• Set performance targets and KPIs for the team.


• Collaborate with procurement and HR to ensure timely availability of resources including initiation and follow up on employment requisitions.


• Monitor resource availability and recommend adjustments.


• Provide guidance to the team on project control best practices, standards, and planning techniques, etc.


• Ensure compliance with project contractual obligations.


• Support quality assurance by reviewing project performance against objectives.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


Education


• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business-related majors (or equivalent)


Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations)


• PMP Certificate preferable (but not essential)


• Certification in the following:


o Primavera Project Planner


o Resource Management in Primavera


o Managing Risk in Primavera Risk Analysis

• Excellent knowledge in Primavera P6


• Earned Value Management (EVM)


• Analytical & Numerical skills

• Proficient in MS Office (excel, word, power point etc.), VBA could be  advantageous.


Experience


• At least 15 -18 years’ experience in relevant industry performing the  planning role, at least 5 years in managerial capacity of similar role.


• Onshore/ Offshore project fabrication/ construction experience (Rig / Lift  boat)


Languages


• Fluent in English (Reading, Writing, Speaking)


• Arabic is not essential but could be advantageous
